We are incredibly honored and excited to announce that we are teaming up with the Boot Campaign. We did the photo-shoot while we were in Steamboat, with Scott Wade.

Here is the official press release sent out yesterday:

Six Market Blvd. is a name that has been getting a steady flow of attention over the last year with the release of their latest record SHAKE IT DOWN. Released independently in May of 2012 and re-released nationally in November of that same year, the record has spun a most powerful web that has captured debuting positions on the Billboard charts and the iTunes country chart, a Top 10 single on the Texas Music Chart and an entanglement of national acclaim in high profile outlets including the HuffingtonPost.com, Country Weekly Magazine, Texas Music Magazine and Billboard’s The 615 music blog. These Stephenville, Texas-based boys sure have come a long way in a short time and they continue their march into expanding territories donning their newly acquired combat boots in honor of The Boot Campaign, a national patriotic movement that has welcomed the band into the fray earlier this year. Clayton Landau, Josh Serrato, Ben Hussey, Dallas Neal and new member Red Shahan will clock the miles in their boots along a touring path that boasts 150 plus shows a year…and counting. In their efforts to help spread awareness Six Market Blvd. will engage in fundraising opportunities and social interactions as they rally their fans around the uprising. Keep tabs on their website for event information, promotions and tour dates.

The Boot Campaign is a national 501c3 non-profit based in Texas that is dedicated to showing tangible appreciation of our active military by encouraging Americans to “get their boots on”. By lacing up a pair of the Boot Campaign’s signature combat boots, Americans are showing appreciation for troops, cultivating awareness of the challenges they face upon return and raising funds for military programs meeting the physical and emotional needs of our heroes. Through the sale of its signature combat boots, general public donations, and corporate sponsorship, the Boot Campaign operates five distinct initiatives — Jobs, Housing, Family Support, Urgent Assistance and Wellness– that are caring for military personnel, past and present, healing from a variety of physical and emotional combat wounds, embodying the campaign motto that, “When They Come Back, We Give Back.” The special edition compilation CD of the same name featuring Jack Ingram, Cory Morrow, Robert Earl Keen, Micky and the Motorcars, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Eli Young Band, Aaron Watson and No Justice (just to name a few) can be purchased via the Boot Campaign store along with boots, apparel and other accessories.

The Boot Campaign is comprised of a strong and growing network of dedicated individuals and groups who volunteer countless hours of their time to ensure that the greatest impact is made in our military communities nationwide. With national coverage on The View, Fox & Friends and Glenn Beck the network has grown to include a slew of the “star-studded” including Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, the Detroit Red Wings, the Jacksonville Jaguars, NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne, Texas Governor Rick Perry, James Carville (The Ragin’ Cajun), Dolly Parton, Gary Allen, George Jones, Kix Brooks, Randy Rogers Band, Reckless Kelly, Craig Morgan, Granger Smith, Gretchen Wilson and Charlie Daniels. Log on to their website and find out how you can get involved!

This is an organization that we are truly thrilled to be involved with, we want to encourage all of our friends and fans to get involved. It is as simple as ordering a pair or boots, or if boots aren’t your thing they have some pretty cool tee’s available as well. This is a great way to show appreciation to the men and women of our military and to help give back when they come back!

Here are some behind the scenes shots from our shoot, it was cold to say the least…

Scott was awesome…

and willing to do anything to get the shot!

A BIG thank you to the Boot Campaign for asking us to be involved, check them out on Facebook here and their website here. We want to give an even BIGGER thank you to the men and women who have served or are serving our country, you make it possible for us to be on the road living our dream.

January 22, 2013

Last Tuesday was the best 25th birthday I have ever had. Clayton and my family met up around lunchtime, went to downtown Fort Worth, and distributed all the donations you guys gave to the homeless population. We had kids clothes, baby clothes, men’s and women’s clothes of all kinds, jackets, gloves, beanies, scarves, ties, shoes, hats, belts, blankets, sheets, purses, backpacks, and hygiene products (soaps, shampoo, conditioner, lotions…etc.)

When we pulled over on Cypress Street right off of Lancaster, there were already about 50 people waiting for us to get the clothes out of the bags. It was kind of intimidating at first, but everything fell right into place. I would guess that anywhere between 100 and 150 people came to the trailer. We had the perfect amount of donations for that spot and a perfect mix of gender to assist both sides. We split up. The clothes were separated according to gender so the girls helped the girls find what they needed, and the guys helped the guys. My nephews even helped out too!

I think each one of us had a unique experience with someone in particular that day and we all visited with many different people over the duration (what seemed like 20 minutes was actually close to 2 hours). I had the opportunity to talk to a man named Angel for about thirty of those minutes. All the action was going on behind me, but I found it difficult to break eye contact with him for any reason. He was involved in a hit and run accident just days before and woke up in the hospital two days later. His legs were very swollen and bruised, but he was tough. His peers jokingly nicknamed him Lazarus when he got out claiming that he came back from the dead. I believe he survived because he still has some unfinished business. He is currently saving money for a bus ticket to Tulsa so he can reunite with his family. And once he gets his feet back under him, he aspires to build a church and pastor it himself.

Thank you all for your donations (you know who you are). Thank you Buddy Calzada (Metro Ministries) for your help and advice for this particular location. Thank you Mom, Chris, Michelle, Elijah, Gabriel, Summer, and Michael for giving your time. Thank you, Amy Rose, for taking our leftover donations. And thank you, Bart Rose, for letting us all use the restroom at your studio afterward…we’ll pitch in on the water bill!

We want to thank all of you who donated to the ‘Help the Homeless’ Donation Drive. This is a project that our Drummer, Dallas Neal spearheaded. Dallas has been donating to the homeless in Oklahoma City for several years now on his own, and it was great to expand that project this year. Check out some pictures and read what Dallas’ experience was when he went to deliver all of your generous donations.

This past Saturday, my good friend, Zac Zuspann and I left for downtown OKC with a trailer full of donations. Unfortunately, the rest of the band could not make it due to last minute planning and Thanksgiving weekend. The trailer (5x8x2) was completely filled to the top with everything from socks, jackets, dress shirts and pants, shorts, t-shirts, to books, blankets, pillows, shoes, sleeping mats , hygiene products…..and a few 6MB albums of course! We met up with a man named Jonathan Roberts, who is the executive director of the organization “Be The Change” (www.bethechange.org), before we set out. His team goes out weekly to give food, shelter, clothing and hope to the chronically homeless. After we all three crammed into my single cab truck, he filled us in about the “leader” of this particular homeless camp we were going to first.

His name is Adrian, and he is quite a character. Jonathan told him earlier that week that we would be swinging through around 2:30PM. As we turned the corner around 2:35, there were close to 75 people waiting in a line, patiently. Adrian was under the impression that a semi truck would be coming so a few of them left, unfortunately. Adrian had a sign-in sheet for everyone that came. He also appointed a few security guards and posted them along the street; one at my truck, one at the trailer to make sure no one grabbed anything out of turn, and some to keep the people in the already formed line. Thankfully, no security was necessary. He had escorts to usher the people, 1-3 at a time, to the trailer to grab 3 items each. The elderly, veterans, and workers were allowed to get at the front of the line. The blankets and winter clothes went quickly. As each person came, Zac and I helped them find what they needed as best as we could. I do not know how many people came to the trailer overall, but it lasted 2 hours. We visited with a wide variety of people; young and old, dark and light, sick and healthy. Everything in the trailer was gone except one bag of clothes and a few books, so we didn’t get to stop at the other homeless camps. Adrian did a great job organizing this event and has big dreams for “his” homeless community. He spoke of hopes to buy a piece of land one day to start his own shelter, and help people with bus tokens using his own money. I think he makes a great leader.

The entire week before, I tried to imagine what this experience would be like and nothing prepared me for it. These people were so grateful for our seconds. To see someone’s face illuminated once we finally found that other worn out size 9 shoe they were looking for, to hear another boast on how fragrant their particular bar of soap was, or to see a young mother sitting on the ground weeping because her kids were taken away was both difficult and rewarding. It made me realize how selfish I can be and how much I take for granted. We went to bless these people, and we left humbled. Nine people contributed this first time around and at least fifty people walked away with some much needed items.

Thank you so much for your donations. This is the first of many future opportunities for all of us to invest in someone else’s life. We are planning to do something similar in the Fort Worth area around Christmas time and I am sure it will be a unique experience as well. Until then, any place that we are playing will be a drop location if you would like to contribute. If you can’t make it out to a show, have any thoughts, or would like to contribute in some other way, shoot me an email.

                                                                                                                                                                                             ~Dallas Neal (*protected email*)

-This month’s recommended album: Six Market Blvd-Shake It Down. These Clayton Landau-led cats out of Stephenville are the real deal. Shake it Down is a more diverse record than its predecessor and toils in more mature lyrical themes. This is the kind of music that gives your foot a thump and your brain a scratch. These kids are going places. And, of course…if you haven’t picked them up yet, I can’t recommend Jason Eady-AM Country Heaven, K Phillips-American Girls, and Turnpike Troubadours-Goodbye Normal Streetenough.

Talk about a strong country music ballad. Lyrically strong, “In The Name Of Us” finds the band singing about the raw and real emotions that can happen when the one of your dreams ends up marrying someone else. It feels like a throwback to earlier, more wide-open musical time yet never feels old either. It’s clearly the work of a new band and it’s just one of the many standout songs on their disc Shake It Down

At the risk of downplaying Six Market Blvd.’s creative spark, they sound like they’ve got one hell of a record collection between them. There’s an admirable if restless gift at work here, sifting through them — no doubt with a slightly buzzed collective grin — and using their road-honed chops (the band has been a barnstorming presence in most of the state’s better small venues since the release of their 2010 debut, Running On Seven) to translate the elements of their influences into something fresh, vital and easy to dig. There’s a heavy dose of the melancholy cool of Ryan Adams’ more countrified efforts, and frontman Clayton Landau’s sweetly languid twang adds to that impression, but there’s also some strong strains of ’70s arena rock (the invigorating opener “Say It!” makes for a memorable shot-and-a-chaser sequence followed up with the brisk, Allman Brothers-esque “White Goose”), woozy cosmic-cowboy era balladry (bassist Ben Hussey’s “Santa Fe Train,” the lovely Tex-Mex waltz “The Painter”), even a couple of unabashed love songs (the jangly charmer “Stand” is among the album’s standout tracks, and “In the Name of Us” drifts into soft-rock territory, sax solo and all, without killing the vibe). There’s a tumbling fluency to Josh Serrato’s lead guitar playing that sounds good in just about any light the band chooses to cast it in, suitably smoking when the situation calls for it but artfully restrained when texture trumps pyrotechnics and the lyrics need room to breathe. The lyrics rarely dazzle as much as the delivery over the album’s 13-track sprawl, but they also steer clear of empty bluster or weary clichés. Now a band with two solid records under its belt, Six Market Blvd. does right by their influences then does them one better by making it all sound brand new.
